Dr. Charles Bohlen Appointed as Trinidad State Junior College Interim President

Dr. Charles Bohlen will serve as interim president for Trinidad State Junior College
Denver – Dr. Nancy McCallin, president of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS), announced today that Dr. Charles Bohlen will serve as interim president for Trinidad State Junior College (TSJC) while a search for a permanent president is conducted. The appointment is effective June 18, 2012.
The vacancy occurred at the departure of current president, Felix Lopez, who is taking the position of vice president for student success at Pikes Peak Community College.
“I want to thank Dr. Bohlen for his willingness to take on this responsibility. His extensive background in community college leadership gives me confidence that the college will continue to thrive and grow as we conduct our search for the permanent president,” said McCallin. “We welcome Dr. Bohlen to our Trinidad State Junior College communities and to the system.”
“After visiting with employees and some students at the Trinidad campus and the Valley campus in Alamosa, I found myself energized by the quality that I saw,” said Bohlen. “It will be a pleasure to work with the faculty, staff and administration in both communities to help students achieve their goals. I also look forward to getting to know people in the communities that provide so much support for the campuses.”
Before retiring, Bohlen served as president of Laramie County Community College from July 1992 to July 2006. Prior to that position, he was dean at The Community and Technical College, University of Toledo in Toledo Ohio from July 1983 to June 1992, and was dean at Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County campus in Olean, New York, from July 1979 to June 1983.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and his master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. He continued on to earn his Ph.D. from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.
The search process has begun. CCCS is advertising the position in national and local publications. A committee made up of college, community, and system representatives is being formed. This committee will review resumes and determine the candidates that will come to campus for on-site interviews. After this is completed, the committee will then select the candidates to forward to Dr. McCallin for her consideration. Dr. McCallin will interview these individuals and, in consultation with the system’s governing board, will appoint the permanent president.
The Colorado Community College System comprises the state's largest system of higher education serving more than 162,000 students annually. CCCS oversees career and academic programs in the 13 state community colleges and career and technical programs in more than 160 school districts and six other post-secondary institutions.
