Assistant Professor, English - Valley Campus
Rhonda Schoenecker moved to the San Luis Valley in 1998 to attend college. At Adams State University, she earned a B. A. in Music Education and an M. A. in Literacy, Language, and Culture. Schoenecker has served as an educator in K12 through college in Alamosa, teaching developmental and freshman English at Trinidad State Junior College since 2012 and Adams State University since 2006. Her M. A. in literacy and background as a nontraditional student makes her especially well-suited to working with developmental students and first year freshmen. Currently, she is attending online classes for a graduate certificate in English Literature at Western New Mexico University to further enhance her range of teaching tools.
Schoenecker is a locally known musician who often volunteers for local non-profits and other benefits in the San Luis Valley. As a vocalist and guitarist, she often appears with her band, Rio Trio, serving up a variety of blues, jazz, and other favorites.
“The valley captured my heart before I knew it, and there’s no place I would rather be. I love the beauty of the landscape, the diverse culture, and the spirit of the community. I feel grateful every day for the privilege raising my son and teaching and living here in the San Luis Valley. I have had so many wonderful opportunities in the valley, and it is important to continue giving back.”
