HANS DROOG


Hans Droog imageHans Droog, Dutch native, born in Indonesia, raised in Tunisia and The Netherlands finished his 6-year education in 1980 at the Classical Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen The Netherlands. He settled soon after in the Mediterranean city of Montpellier in the South of France showing his paintings at local galleries, receiving commissions from architects and interior designers.

In 1984 Hans moved to the Midwestern State of Missouri  where he continued as a fine artist showing/selling works at numerous local St. Louis- and regional galleries.

In St Louis, Hans had shown his large, realistically painted studies of Midwestern life and farm scenes at the  Missouri Botanical Gardens  and several Banks  and Galleries. His paintings have received numerous recognitions and awards from various organizations including "Art St. Louis".

Hans Droog imageDuring this same period Hans' evolving interest in Midwestern farm scenes, livestock and native wildlife resulted in a commercial line of art, attracting commissions from corporations such as John Deere, Ralston Purina, Anheuser Busch, Drury Hotels as well as private collectors. For over a decade he has created the original  art for the poster of St. Louis Zoo's largest bi-annual fundraising event 'Zoofari'. His artwork was selected by Anheuser Busch for a number of collectible beer steins including the 'American Wildlife' series and the popular "Christmas Stein".

In the 1990's Hans moved to the small German town of Hermann along the Missouri River. Commissions and sales of his work including wildlife sculptures and livestock paintings. His work is displayed in homes, restaurants, wineries and bed & breakfasts throughout the region. While his artwork remains focused on wildlife and livestock, he also designs and produces many pieces of original hand-carved furniture inspired by garden flowers. His custom furniture, cabinets and doors can be found in many of Hermann's century-old B&B's.

In January 2016 Hans moved to Trinidad, Colorado excited to continue his work as a painter, sculptor and wood/metalworker using Trinidad as a source of inspiration.

Since moving to Trinidad Hans was hired by:

  • City of Trinidad, horse sculpture (above)
  • Trinchera Ranch, designing and fabricating furniture, bridges, entrances.
  • Space to Create, Trinidad, fabricating historic correct doors, windows and more.
  • Numerous local business designing and fabricating signs, paintings.
