“How to make money as an artist”
We’ll go over the details of running a business, like methods of pricing your art, and the different programs, contracts, and team you’ll need to build;
I’ll lead you through my journey, starting off small, with very little money ($12k per year income), and go over how to scale your art business over time, and from simple low-cost marketing all the way to $10k per month advertising with no risk;
We’ll talk about turning your creative passion into a full time job, and how to design your business to give you passive income and be able to run it from abroad. Defining what’s important to you, and why.
Everyone has the POTENTIAL to make their artwork profitable, but it involves a lot of decisions and spectrums and grey areas that you’ll have to navigate depending on your art, your situation, and what you want out of this life. We’ll go over all that.
BIO:
My degree is in architecture. In my late twenties I decided I wanted to make art as a living, and that I didn’t want to ever work for a boss again. And here I am in my early forties making a good living from my art. My studio is in my house, I wake up when I want, I take breaks and walk through my garden. I spent a few years traveling and living in Europe with my now-husband, mostly in the Netherlands and Slovenia.
After learning how to screen print on shirts and paper, I opened my own screen printing company in the main art district of Denver in 2014, printing band posters, art prints, and my own art, and teaching others; At this point I was exhibiting at coffee shops and small galleries. A few years later I would start an online shop selling prints and other fun items.
I make art with a vintage, Americana feel, combined with a unique surrealism. The colors and detail suggest a nostalgia, with a narrative of childhood books, both mystical and beguiling to the viewer, combined with a contemporary twist. I find influence from magic show posers, matchboxes, firecracker packaging, Victorian lithographs and book covers.
I’ve shown art throughout the US, and work with wholesalers all over - China, the UK, Finland, Germany and more. I’ver been sought out by the Chicago Design Museum, The New York Times, Chronicle Books, Bored Panda, Hi-Fructose, Colossal, and many more.
I’m from Denver, and now live in Trinidad with my husband Joze and the cutest dog in the world.
