What is a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) Degree?

According to Day and Newburger (2002), individuals with a four-year degree have 2/3 higher earning potential than those who did not finish a college degree. A BAS degree is designed to meet the needs of students who are already working and in fast-paced environments who need flexibility in their coursework. This degree completion process begins with an associate’s degree made up of coursework that closely aligns with higher-level coursework with higher-order thinking skills demanded in today’s economic environment.

Research shows BAS degree programs provide options for career trajectories that have been previously unavailable to those already in the job market with an associate’s degree (Bragg, 2001, Townsend, 2009).

What is the difference between a BAS and a BS or BA degree?

Typically, students who seek a BS or BA following successful completion of an AAS lose 50 to 60 hours of course credit due to the technical nature of many AAS programs. Applied baccalaureate degrees is designed to assist with degree shortages within the labor force in high-need areas, especially rural populations who desire personalized instruction.

In my first year I graduated the Accounting Certificate program. It was such a good experience that I decided to keep going! The staff at TSC are so knowledgeable and ready to assist at any given moment. You won’t find that at other schools where you can feel lost and like you’re only a number. I was able to grow personally because of the immense support from everyone. Overall, the best two years of my life!"
