Commencement Ceremony

The commencement ceremony of graduation will be held on Thursday, May 15th. The ceremony begins at 11:00am at Adams State University's Plachy Hall.
Parking is free.

Parking is free.

What Do I Do The Day Of Commencement?

All candidates are encouraged to be present at the commencement exercise, wearing cap and gown. Show up on campus 30 minutes prior to the start of the event to line up. If you have special needs or guests with special needs, please let us know prior the event so we can accommodate special requests.

Instructions for Graduates

  • Caps and gowns available for pick up through May 13th in the Admissions Office. See Mathilda Westerman.
  • Candidates should wear tassels on the right until it is changed at the time of conferring the degrees.
  • Each candidate will be given a name card. Graduates will carry the name card to the stage and present it to the reader before crossing the stage.
  • After receiving their diploma cover, each candidate will exit across the platform and return to their seat.

Undergraduate Honors

Students who will be graduating with honors will be given a color cord during the graduation dinner based on previous semester GPA as follows:

  • Gold Cord
    – Graduating with highest honor
    – Summa Cum Laude (4.0 GPA)
  • Silver Cord
    – Graduating with Great Honor
    – Magna Cum Laude (3.75 - 3.99 GPA)
  • Bronze Cord
    – Graduating with Honor
    – Cum Laude (3.5 – 3.74 GPA)

The honor cords are for those students receiving a Degree.

  1. Degree Check
    - Available online through your Student Portal link.
    Staff is available in the Student Success Center (Trinidad Campus) or the Welcome Center (Valley Campus) to help you with the program.
  2. Graduation Application
    - Complete the Application for Graduation, print it, and bring it to your advisor.
    - or, click this online link in order to submit completely online!
    All graduates from Summer, Fall and Spring who request a cap & gown will receive a letter of invitation to the Commencement/Graduation Ceremony with details by the end of the third week of April.
  3. Financial Aid Exit
    - Student loan borrowers only -
    - Complete the Required Exit Counseling online at www.studentloans.gov
  4. Annual Commencement
    - Held each May; participants of the Commencement Ceremony are graduates of the preceding Summer and Fall terms, or expected graduates for the current Spring term each year.

  5. Diplomas and Certificates
    - Once requirements are met, diplomas and certificates are mailed to the current address on record within 8 weeks following each term.
  6. Career Center
    - Learn how to do an effective job search that will get you started on the right track. Contact Career Services staff in the Learning Center or Success Center on your campus.
