Non-Traditional Students

Established in 1925, Trinidad State has been through it all. That’s one of the reasons we believe it is imperative to adapt to change, embrace diversity, and educate for the future. We must be able to equip students for high-demand fields that offer both a great wage and the ability to advance.

One of the fastest ways for an individual to advance in a high paying field is to go into a non-traditional occupation. A non-traditional occupation is one where one gender (male or female) comprises less than 25 percent of those employed (according to the U. S. Department of Labor). Essentially that would be a female in a male dominated career like welding or a male in a female dominated career like nursing.

What does this mean to you?
You can choose a career that is perfect for you!

Advantages for men looking at Non-Traditional Careers:
   - Advancement in your field
   - Competitive wages
   - More job opportunities
   - Financial security
   - Demand for your skills
   - Freedom to pursue your passion!

Advantages for women looking at Non-Traditional Career:
   - Financial security
   - Higher wages (Non-Traditional Careers pay 20-30% more than other traditional jobs held by women)
    - Demand for your skills
    - Advancement in your field
    - Freedom to pursue your passion!

Males and females all over the country are choosing to break down barriers in their career fields, and so can you!

Will the road be hard?
Yes. Sometimes you may not have a mentor in the career you choose. Friends, family, or coworkers may not understand why you have chosen a path that is unique.  You must hold strong to your passion! Knowing you will be paid competitively, have more job security, and be able to advance in your field will provide great rewards in the long run.
