John Mochel was sworn in as County Court Judge of Las Animas County in January 2019.
Prior to his judicial appointment, he served as Assistant General Counsel of DaVita
Inc. and as Associate General Counsel of Orthofix Medical specializing in healthcare
and commercial contract law. John Mochel also served as an Officer and Judge Advocate
in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2009 – 2014, where he performed in several billets including
trial counsel and as the Assistant Staff Judge Advocate to the Commanding General
of Camp Lejeune. Prior to law school, John Mochel also served as a Dallas Police Officer
from 2002 – 2007. Before his time in law enforcement, he worked as a financial advisor
for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and as an Associate Vice President at JP Morgan Chase.
When not occupied with his children's extracurricular endeavors, John enjoys everything
related to the outdoors including hunting, fishing, and especially hiking Colorado's
highest peaks.
John Mochel earned his B.B.A. from Baylor University in 1999, his J.D. from West Virginia
University in 2010, his LL.M. from George Washington University Law in 2011, and his
M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014.
