I am currently working on my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Sedona University in
Arizona.
Born and raised in the San Luis Valley, I enjoy the outdoors tremendously, especially
living in the highest Alpine valley in the United States. I enjoy hiking, fishing,
camping, and practicing outdoor survival skills. Nature is a place where I completely
"rest". I feel renewed in the outdoors, closer to Creator, and my core center... it
provides me opportunities to heal, in order to help others.
I have two children, and both live in New Mexico. My mother is still alive, and she
too resides in the San Luis Valley.
Artwork, drumming, playing guitar and piano, and singing are a joy for me!
My great passion is bringing healing to children and families who have been through
trauma/stressful experiences. I help people, who include children, adults and families,
to find healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships so they
can know themselves as peaceful, complete, healthy, whole and safe.
I know that no single approach is the right one for every individual, and so I have
been trained in a range of modalities including Gestalt Therapy, Play Therapy, Sand
Tray Therapy, Celebrating Families Model/Therapy, Wellbriety Therapy, and Art Therapy.
My educational background includes an MA. in Family Systems and Studies from Loma
Linda University in Loma Linda, California. I have a BA. in Psychology and Sociology
from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado.
I am very passionate about teaching Psychology, Sociology, and Early Childhood courses,
because this has always been a time to share my knowledge and experiences with others,
as well as learning from my students. My work is infused with Native American culture,
traditions, ceremonies, and practices, since my mother is Native American, Taos Pueblo.
It is a privilege to work with clients and students, catering my approach to each
individual person, and class. This is where empathy and compassion are a big part
of my job.
The classroom or meeting place becomes a space for meaningful interactions, there's
no better place to tell your stories and receive wholeness than in the "Sacred Space".
Blessings, Aho!
