1st Generation College Scholars
1st Generation College Scholar Celebrations!
Join us as we celebrate the courage, resilience, and achievements of our first-generation students!
Trinidad State College places unique emphasis on the success of students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education. This approach acknowledges the unique challenges faced by first-generation students—such as limited family knowledge about college life, financial constraints, and navigating unfamiliar academic environments—and actively creates support structures to help them thrive.
In practice, this means that we shape our policies, programs, and culture to make the college experience more accessible and inclusive. From specialized orientation programs and mentorship by first-gen faculty and staff to academic workshops and financial aid counseling, a First Generation-Serving Institution commits to empowering our students by fostering a community where they feel valued and understood. We strive to break down barriers by promoting a culture of belonging, equipping first-generation students with resources to navigate college life, and celebrating their accomplishments.
This dedication not only impacts individual students but also contributes to a broader social mission, as it helps lift our entire communities, enhances educational equity, and fosters a diverse campus where all students have the chance to succeed, regardless of their backgrounds.
Let’s come together to honor those who are the first in their families to break barriers and pursue higher education.
