A new nights-only business certificate will be offered at Trinidad State College starting in June. A person needing to bolster business skills can start now and complete the program in May of 2018 without ever having to take a class in the daytime. “It takes six semesters including summers,” said Trinidad State Dean of Instruction Keith Gipson, “and the courses are laid out so a student can start any semester and work right through.”

“We picture this for someone who has daycare issues, or someone who wants to enhance their skills. Maybe they’re working somewhere and they want to move up to a management position,” said Gipson. The first course, Customer Service, is worth three credit hours. It will be taught Tuesday nights from 5:30 to 8 beginning June 7. In the fall there will be two classes, Intro to PC applications and Principles of Marketing. Each will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m., one on Tuesday, and the other on Thursday. Other classes needed to complete the certificate include Business Ethics, Entrepreneurial Operations, Time Management and Financial Mathematics. There are 13 classes in all.

“With the number of small businesses and start-ups in town, we believe Trinidad has a real need for business training,” said Trinidad State President Dr. Carmen Simone. “We hope offering a whole series of night classes will give working people a realistic way to enhance their skills and knowledge.”
