The George W. Scott Award is presented to the Trinidad State athlete, or athletes who have participated in one or more major sports over three consecutive semesters and have the highest scholastic record of all athletes over that same period. This year TSJC awarded the Scott award to a pair of sophomores, Dorian Ray from the volleyball team and Yasmin Mookerdum from the soccer team.
Dorian is a 4.0 student from Eads, Colorado. She was an All-Region defensive specialist for Coach Melissa Hardman and the TSJC Volleyball team. Dorian received the prestigious Kane Scholarship and plans to continue her education at UCCS majoring in Business and Finance. She hopes one day to create her own business around her “Dorian Lord” brand.
Yasmin was a starter in the defensive backfield for the Lady Trojan Soccer team. She is also a 4.0 student and was named the 2016 Arts and Sciences Graduation Speaker. She will major in Communications at Eastern Oregon University this fall while continuing her soccer career. Yas came to TSJC from Brisbane, Australia and hopes to one day have a career in Broadcast Journalism or Foreign Affairs.
Ray and Mookerdum are the first recipients of the George W. Scott award in many years. This resurrected award is named for long-time Coach and Administrator George W. Scott who led Trojan athletics in the 1930’s. Scott Gym on the Trinidad State campus also bears his name.
