Our Role As A Hispanic Serving Institution
Trinidad State College is a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI). This is a federal designation for an accredited, degree-granting, public or private nonprofit institution of higher education. The institution must enroll 25% or more Hispanic or Latino/a/x students, along with a large percentage of students that are eligible for Pell grants. This designation supports Trinidad State College’s mission to provide quality educational experiences and lifelong learning while educating for the future. This designation also allows us to apply for federal funding through Title V grants. Trinidad State College was designated an HSI in 1999 and we received our first Title V grant in 2000. Adelante Grant 2020-2025
The Adelante Title V grant’s total amount of $2,964,464 over five years, is designed
to serve TSC’s unique student population through the development of three project
components:
- Component 1:
Improving support services on each campus to provide coordinated services and resources to Hispanic and underserved students, to include developing Innovative Learning Centers on each campus. - Component 2:
Improving professional development activities that serve students, faculty, and staff related to culturally responsive teaching. - Component 3:
Improving student success through improved technology, access, and support throughout the institution to enable more hybrid and alternative course formats.

Title V Director
Tori is a multi-passionate social scientist working in innovate ways to improve justice,
equity, diversity, inclusion, and access. She has been working for the past 20 years
in Southern Colorado, to engage those most impacted by inequities, advocate for change,
and build more inclusive spaces.
