Join us for an engaging artist talk featuring Marilyn Leuszler, a distinguished practitioner of Japanese ink brush techniques. With an extensive background in Sumi-e (black ink painting), Sho-do (Japanese brush calligraphy), and Nihon Shishu (traditional Japanese silk embroidery), the artist will share insights from years of formal study and apprenticeship in Japan. Her artistic journey spans traditional and contemporary approaches, shaped by mentorship from esteemed Japanese masters and hands-on experience in ink-making, papermaking, and related crafts.
Beyond her studio practice, she has played a pivotal role in arts leadership, serving as Executive Director of the Corazón de Trinidad Creative District and holding various board positions that support the arts in Colorado. Her talk will explore the depth of Japanese ink traditions, the discipline behind each brushstroke, and the intersection of cultural heritage with modern artistic expression. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the philosophy, technique, and innovation behind this timeless art form.
